We wear this crown with our heads held high
I recall weekend Oakland Chinatown grocery trips with my mom. I was taught at a young age that each shop had product nuances which made them unique to its real estate. Our double parking game was immaculate. My role was to wait in the station wagon, protect the provisions and if I spotted a meter maid, send them the other way with my 10-year old charm. Each trip was always punctuated with an obligatory pink box of pastries…all gone the same day, of course.
As a product of the Bay and a first-generation Asian American developing an unfinished story of assimilation, hustle and lineage, this cap is all Town business. It represents more than a ball club. It represents my undying love for the Bay and the fond childhood memories made. These caps were made to commemorate an end of an era as much as it’s a tribute to my childhood growing up in the Bay.
